OVERVIEW: Sustainable Bioproducts (SBP), a Chicago-based biotech startup, was founded in 2013 with the mission of creating delicious foods that nourish people and protect our planet. We trace our origins to the volcanic springs of Yellowstone National Park, where research conducted in partnership with NASA led us to discover a ground-breaking, sustainable source of protein. As we move towards commercialization and launch, we are looking for people with passion, ingenuity, and curiosity to join our team.
The Head of Human Resources will be the go-to person for all employee-related issues and will translate business strategy into effective HR programs and services in a fast-paced, get it done environment. This highly visible role will develop and cultivate relationships with functional leadership and through that partnership, will provide counsel on a full range of HR business areas including job design, recruitment, employee relations, performance management, training & development, talent management, organizational planning and more. In addition, this role will be looked to as a developer of corporate values, and a key leader in developing a productive and positive culture for all employees.
Consult with senior management on organizational/business issues, including talent, change management, employee relations, team effectiveness and leadership development.
Develop strategic workforce plans that are aligned with business strategies and objectives.
Work closely with leaders and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase engagement, performance and retention of talent.
Oversee and manage a performance appraisal system that drives high performance.
Continuously assesses the organization and target organizational development, leadership development, and team development efforts to improve organizational functioning.
Deliver services that address organizational challenges related to business alignment, organization effectiveness, and leadership capability.
Manage employee relations issues by conducting effective, thorough inquiries to coach managers on effective issue resolution.
Lead annual talent & compensation processes, change management initiatives, and deployment of new programs and processes.

At least 7 years of Human Resources generalist experience.
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management or related field. SPHR certification preferred.
Working and practical knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state employment laws.
Strong business consulting and HR acumen, including strong problem solving skills, critical thinking, and initiative and the ability to influence and partner with all levels of the organization to drive impact.
Excellent presentation and communication skills.
Strong knowledge of employment laws across multiple states.
Demonstrated organizational skills, with a keen focus on delivering business results.
Proven ability to strategically and tactically evaluate and implement sophisticated HR-related programs and initiatives.
